David is well known for his ability to find common ground among individuals and groups with differing points of view to achieve positive goals – a vital asset for a member of the Town Council.

For more than 20 years, David Ellis has been repeatedly elected by his neighbors to lead these important organizations—reflecting the confidence the community’s residents have placed in his judgment, integrity, and ability to bring people together.

As a candidate for Town Council, David Ellis is motivated to improve the lives of residents and workers on Hilton Head Island.

That drive is evident in his background – starting as student body president at the University of Notre Dame to chairing multiple organizations and committees from Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Hilton Head Island.

In his hometown of Vicksburg, Mississippi, David was highly respected and deeply involved in civic affairs for more than three decades, serving as City Attorney for much of that time. During that period, he also served as president of the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.

As a result, he is well-versed in bond financing, utility infrastructure, public safety, economic development, tourism, cultural affairs plus other aspects of municipal management.

During his years as Chairman of the Sea Pines Community Services Association (CSA) and President of both the Sea Pines Property Owners Association and Sea Pines Country Club, David helped guide major improvements while emphasizing fiscal responsibility, transparency, and coalition-building.

David’s guidance in Sea Pines has helped strengthen public safety initiatives, improve roads and drainage, enhance parks and the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, expand community communication, encourage long-term traffic planning, and support one of the largest facility improvements in the history of the Sea Pines Country Club.

Perhaps most important, David worked to build trust—bringing residents, volunteers, and staff together around the shared goal of making Sea Pines an even better place to live.  This same collaborative approach is what he hopes to bring to Hilton Head Island Town Council.

The most important aspect of David’s life is his family.  For more than 60 years, he has been married to his wife, Barbara, whom he met in college, where she was attending St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame’s sister school. They have four daughters, Margee, Cheri, Tricia, and Kathleen, and seven grandchildren who range in age from elementary school to adult.

David’s dedication to his family, clients, and community is a testament to his character and work ethic. He hopes to continue making a positive impact on those around him.
